Essential Oils for Cold and Flu Season

Which oils are MUST HAVES for the cold and Flu season!?

  • For the upcoming cold season, I highly recommend the Breathe blend and the On Guard blend. Breathe is a respiratory blend that has Laurel Leaf, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Melaleuca, Lemon, Cardamom, Ravintsara, and Ravensara. Breathe can be applied topically to the chest, back, or bottom of feet, or diffused at nighttime to calm the senses and promote a restful sleep. On Guard contains Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils. It can be ingested to protect the immune system as well as applied to the feet or spine. It can also be added to cleaning products.

  • For having around the house, my go to oils are: lemon, peppermint, and lavender. These three oils are the most commonly used oils as they can be diffused for aromatherapy, used for cleaning, or applied to the skin (with a carrier oil). Lavender is great for cuts, scrapes and bruises and has anti-inflammatory as well as relaxing properties. Lemon oil is a great antimicrobial to use in cleaning products and to refresh wood. You can also add a few drops to your water for flavor (just be sure to use a glass bottle as it can erode plastic!). Peppermint oil is great to put on your feet to help refresh them after a long day, and many people swear it helps them sleep better! Peppermint also helps relieve headaches when used as aromatherapy. Of course, these oils can all be added into baked dishes as well!
